Who we are…

The St. Andrews Open Door Food Program, our local food bank, was created in the spring of 2016 by a mother in our community who became aware of the food insecurity in our area. We are completely volunteer-driven, with great support from our community and business neighbours.

Donations received are distributed to people in need in the form of a grocery gift card. The gift cards come in predetermined denominations and are distributed once a month. This program offers independence and dignity to card recipients who get to purchase fresh and healthy foods that meet their dietary needs. The grocery cards are unmarked and for food purchases only. We serve the residents of St. Andrews, Bayside, Chamcook, and Bocabec.

This program is well-suited for our community and the cost to run it is minimal; there is no need for rental space, warehouses for food storage, or paid employees. Our operating costs are 5% of our donation revenue.

Even in a community like ours, there is a strong and growing need for a service like Open Door. Unfortunately, the need continues to grow and we continue to rely on donations, fundraising initiatives, and volunteers to make it work.

We are grateful to be able to provide this service for those in our area in need. Thank you for being a part of its success.
