Saint Andrews Food Forest

Food forests are designed to be open spaces that are available to anyone

The Saint Andrews Food Forest is a welcoming community space located at the corner of Acadia Road and Champlain Avenue. It is open to everyone and designed as a place where people of all ages can come together to learn about growing, harvesting, and sharing food. The goal is to strengthen food security in our community while building knowledge that can be shared across generations.

While the Food Forest is a project created under the umbrella of the Open Door Food Program, it operates as its own independent project. The project brings together traditional knowledge and permaculture principles to create a self-sustaining and productive landscape that reflects a natural ecosystem. The space is not only about growing food but also about creating a place for learning, connection, and community involvement.

The Food Forest responds to the growing need for accessible food growing spaces in Saint Andrews. Interest in community gardening continues to grow, while available space remains limited. This project offers a new approach by creating a shared environment where food can be grown collectively and enjoyed by all. It reflects the same values that guide the Open Door Food Program by supporting dignity, access, and a stronger sense of community through food.
